What is Rooibos Tea? Rooibos, pronounced ROY-BOSS, is a broom-like shrub that grows in South Africa's fynbos biome. Fynbos is a small belt of natural shrub-land or heathland vegetation located in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa. The name rooibos comes from the Afrikaans word for "red bush," which is a reference to the plant's reddish-brown color. Rooibos Tea is made from the leaves of the rooibos shrub. The leaves are harvested and then dried, either in the sun or in a kiln. The dried leaves are then steeped in hot water to make the tea. Rooibos Tea has a slightly sweet flavor, a nutty aroma and is caffeine-free.
