    A Lifetime Dedicated to Great Coffee

    John Weaver has been roasting coffee since 1980.

    What began as an opportunity to learn the craft became a lifelong passion that has spanned more than four decades, helped shape one of America's most respected coffee companies, and ultimately led to the creation of Weaver's Coffee & Tea.

    Today, John serves as Master Coffee Roaster and co-founder of Weaver's Coffee & Tea, bringing a lifetime of experience, curiosity, and craftsmanship to every coffee we roast.

    Learning from Coffee Pioneers

    In 1980, John began working alongside coffee pioneers Alfred Peet and Sal Bonavita.

    Those early years provided a front-row seat to the foundations of specialty coffee in the San Francisco Bay Area. Working side by side with two of the industry's most influential figures, John learned the importance of quality sourcing, careful roasting, thoughtful blending, and never compromising on flavor.

    The lessons he learned during those years continue to influence Weaver's Coffee & Tea today.

    Twenty-Seven Years at Peet's Coffee

    After his apprenticeship, John went on to spend 27 years at Peet's Coffee, eventually serving as Master Roaster.

    For nearly three decades, he focused on what he still believes matters most: consistency. Customers should be able to count on their favorite coffee tasting great every time they brew a cup. This philosophy remains at the heart of Weaver's Coffee & Tea.

    Starting Weaver's Coffee & Tea

    In 2007, John left Peet's Coffee and co-founded Weaver's Coffee & Tea with Renée Brown, Michael Brown, and Bryce Inouye.

    The goal wasn't to build the biggest coffee company.

    The goal was to build a company centered on exceptional coffee, lasting customer relationships, and doing business the right way.

    From our roastery and coffee shop in San Rafael, California, we continue to roast coffee with the same attention to detail and commitment to quality that have guided John's career since the beginning.

    Coffee, Tea, and Craftsmanship

    While many people know John for coffee roasting, his experience extends beyond coffee.

    Having learned both coffee roasting and tea blending early in his career, John has helped shape Weaver's collection of hand-blended teas alongside our coffee program.

    Whether it's coffee or tea, the focus remains the same: quality, balance, consistency, and enjoyment.

    More Than a Cup of Coffee

    The team has always believed that great businesses should contribute to the communities they serve.

    That belief is reflected in Weaver's Coffee & Tea's ongoing support of the Dr. Susan Love Foundation for Breast Cancer Research, Black Girls Code, and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

    For the co-founders, coffee has never been just about what happens in the cup. It's about the people who grow it, roast it, serve it, and enjoy it.

    Still Roasting Today

    More than 40 years after roasting his first batch of coffee, John remains actively involved in product development, quality control, and the roasting process.

    Every coffee we produce reflects the experience, standards, and passion that have defined his career from the very beginning.
