Artisan Coffee for a Cause Program

We know we can change the world, if we want to, we just must go out there and do it, and occasionally talk about it too.  We are artisan coffee roasters from the San Francisco Bay, and we love what we do.  Our Master Coffee Roaster has been roasting coffee since 1980 and worked side by side with Alfred Peet and Sal Bonavita from 1980 to 1984.  Weaver was then the Master Coffee Roaster at Peet's Coffee for 27 years, until he left Peet’s Coffee in 2007 to start our company with Renee Brown, Michael Brown, and Bryce Inouye.

The Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation leads multiple projects, but perhaps their most noteworthy is the Army of Women. The Army of Women’s goal is to recruit women, non-binary, and men who have or are at high risk of breast cancer and give them access to connect to research studies. With the Army of Women, scientists who usually have a hard time finding research participants are connected directly and research can be done quicker and more effectively.

Kimberly Bryant is an electrical engineer and has worked in biotech for over twenty years. She started Black Girls Code after her daughter Kai went to a summer camp and complained to her mom that not only was the girl’s camp given less attention, but she was the only African American girl at the camp.

Black Girls Code gives young and pre-teen women of color the opportunity to become the “Girl Scouts of Technology”. Black Girls Code Vision: To increase the number of women of color in the digital space by empowering girls of color ages 7 to 17 to become innovators in STEM fields, leaders in their communities, and builders of their own futures through exposure to computer science and technology.  To provide African American youth with skills to occupy some of the 1.4 million computing job openings expected to be available in the U.S. by 2020, and to train 1 million girls by 2040.

Their mission is to introduce programming and technology to a new generation of coders, coders who will become builders of technological innovation and of their own futures. This organization helps empower young women to embrace the current tech marketplace by becoming builders and creators. In 2013, BGC was teaching students and hosting workshops in seven states as well as South Africa.

People who work in computer programming need some serious coffee to keep them going. Our Hackers Coffee makes for a remarkably rich, and complex cup. The Certified Natural Ethiopian bean mixed into this delicious coffee leaves a lingering note of blueberry in your mouth, and the best part is that a percentage of sales goes to Black Girls Code.
