Tanzania, the largest country in East Africa, is just a little bit more than twice the size of California. The highest free standing mountain in the world, Mt. Kilimanjaro is here. Tanzania is made up of 130 tribes, each significant in their own way, with over 120 languages spoken.
With more than 4 million wild animals in its periphery, Tanzania has the largest concentration of animals per square kilometer, in the world. Talking about wild, 30% of country’s area is occupied with National Parks, with 12 parks, 13 nature reserves, and 38 protected areas. The most famous national park of Tanzania is the Serengeti National Park. When a million wildebeests cross over to the Masai Mara National Park in Kenya the migration is so epic some say it is one of the natural wonders of the world.
Tanzania is the third largest coffee producer in Africa and produces about one percent of the world’s Arabica coffee. Tanzania produces some of the most unique coffees in the world – very highly regarded, but unlike other premium coffees that you’d never take into a dark roast, Tanzanias beans work extremely well into darker roasts.
Our Tanzania hails from small holding farms in the Tarime district located in the northern tip of Tanzania which is a stone’s throw away from the border of Kenya. The region has a reputation for coffee that is more complex and a higher grade than most of the country’s harvest. This delicious organic coffee is hand picked, naturally sun-dried and softened by the aging process.
The complexity is surprising to coffee connoisseurs and the tasting notes are all over the board. Our Tanzania is rare, mild bodied with flavors of amiable citrus and tangerine overtones, coupled with dried fruit sweetness and a bright acidity.
